Who I am
I recently left a six-year role to pursue ceramics full-time, returning to the subject I studied at Cardiff School of Art and Design (graduating in 2017).
Since March, I’ve been creating, showing at craft fairs and taking on commissions, and volunteering with The Abingdon Bridge charity, where I lead clay workshops for young adults.
My business name – Made by GiGi – came about as Gigi is the name my Granny called me by. I wanted to dedicate the business name to her, as she taught me how to draw.
I spent hours drawing at her kitchen table, looking out to the garden, watching the birds, and listening to Granny talk about her flowers. She had a big box of pencils and crayons and a little drawer unit which contained stationery and scraps of paper. I have inherited this, and it takes pride of place in my studio.
Every day I am reminded of Granny, whether it's through the flowers in the garden or using her paintbrushes. She is always with me.
Inspired by nature and everyday moments
I’m an Abingdon-based ceramicist, hand-building mainly plates, bowls and mugs in terracotta and stoneware clay. I also make ceramic jewellery and ornaments.
My work often features hand-drawn linear and floral motifs, botanicals pressed into clay, hand-stamped lettering and sgraffito decoration.
I also gather flowers and leaves while walking my two dogs, which I use to create botanical impressions in my pieces. I find great joy in the therapeutic process of hand-building, and each item is individually made with care.
